How to Stay Healthy and Fit During Autumn

Autumn is a beautiful season. The chilly weather is perfect to cozy up on the couch with a warm beverage and a good book. There are so many holidays during the season, and to be honest there is a lot of eating involved, like sweet treats from Halloween candy, Thanksgiving leftovers, and the beloved Pumpkin Spice lattes. A lot of unhealthy food is consumed during the final months of the year. And a lot more inactivity is present, too. Many are guilty of spending a whole Sunday just laying in bed watching Netflix and avoiding going for a run or doing something that will get their heart rate a little up.

It's good to have a treat now and then and have a lazy Sunday once in a while, but it's really important to find a balance and try to live a healthier lifestyle through better eating habits, regular exercise, dietary supplements and the practice of mindfulness.

For some, the Autumnal weather can cause a lack of motivation to workout. If it's raining, it's more difficult to get out and head to the gym. Sometimes it's too cold and all you want to do is curl up in bed. But don't feel bad, it happens to the best of us. If the weather is cooler, we don't get as thirsty and sometimes forget to drink the recommended amount of water.

As you can see, a cycle of unhealthy habits usually happens during Autumn. But it doesn't have to be that way. Today I'll share some tips on how to stay healthy during Autumn and find the motivation to exercise and make better lifestyle choices.


At-home workouts are your new best friend

I love working out from home and have done so for the past two years. I rarely go to the gym or take a class because I'm constantly traveling back and forth so I take advantage of at-home fitness programs.

For many years I did programs like Insanity and T25. But I needed something new and different that would not bore me. Don't get me wrong, those programs are amazing and get results, but after a long time of doing them on repeat I lost motivation.

That's when I started using YouTube as my go-to for exercise videos. My personal favourite channels are POPSUGAR Fitness and Boho Beautiful. But you can search for a specific type of workout you prefer and you'll find thousands of videos available for free.

Strengthen your immune health.

Avoid getting hit with common colds and the flu by taking action and strengthening your immune system. Taking probiotics, vitamins and minerals can aid in keeping yourself healthy. Don't forget about supplementing with Vitamin D, especially during Autumn and Winter when there is a lack of sunlight exposure. Schedule a visit with your doctor to check your vitamin D levels and determine how much you need to supplement with.

Another important health tip is to not forget about drinking enough water. Colder weather usually means less sweating and less thirst, but our bodies need to stay hydrated. Avoid neglecting your daily water intake by placing a bottle next to your bed, on your desk and even carrying one in your car. If the taste of plain water bores you, try adding a slice of ginger or a cinnamon stick to make it more flavorful.


Don't overindulge in sweets and processed foods, especially during Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Skip the fancy coffees packed with syrups and calories. Opt for a healthier option like making your own tea and coffee at home. Put the kettle on and taste the wonderful seasonal blends you can get at the grocery store or the farmer's market. This can help save your wallet and your waistline.

Take advantage of the seasonal produce and make more nourishing meals at home, like squash soups, vegan chilly, roasted veggies and seasonal salads.


Autumn is the perfect opportunity to step up your self-care routine.

Start by making you home a more inviting and cozy place. Select a day to get your house cleaned and then decorate with seasonal items like throw blankets, cushion, candles, oil diffusers and fairy lights. Adding a gorgeous arrangement of flowers and an Autumn wreath will instantly transform your mood and get you excited for some cozy Autumn nights at home.

Your home is not the only one getting more beautiful. Treat your body to a relaxing, warm bath every night. Use bath salts, essential oils and bath bombs to revitalize and moisturize your skin.

Don't forget to protect your body from the dropping temperatures. Wear layers and coats during the day and keep your bedroom warm and cozy at night. The most important thing is to listen to your body and give it what it needs.
