How long have you been blogging? And what type of blog do you have?

I have been blogging for about 2 months now. My blog is a lifestyle blog where I share vegetarian and vegan recipes, health and wellness tips, and career advice.

What made you decide to start a blog?

I have always loved writing but did not pursue journalism in school. Starting my blog has been a great way for me to have a platform to share my love for writing as well as my voice with the world.

Writing is very cathartic for me, and it affords me the opportunity to reach so many people. I find that to be quite amazing.

Do you have a routine that helps you stay on track and be productive?

I am currently working full-time and blogging on the side. In order to do this successfully, I have to really plan my schedule out. I have mapped out which days I will perform all of the specific tasks related to my blog, and I try to stick to that schedule.

Finding the balance can sometimes be difficult, but my biggest takeaway is blocking out time to blog during non-working hours. Keeping my content calendar up to date, and planning content as far in advance as possible. I also add reminders to my phone to remind me when I need to do certain tasks for both my day job, and my blog.

Have you ever experienced a creative rut and how did you get out of it?

There have been a few times where I have been unable to write and create content for my blog. When I experience this, I try to go to Pinterest to find inspiration.

Another thing I do is read other blogs that are full of good content. Knowing that there are tons of other girl bosses out there that are balancing work/life and blogging has been a big motivator for me. Also, joining Facebook groups and talking to other bloggers has been helpful as well.

JP's tips for people who want to start blogging

Try to be as organized as possible, especially if you are balancing blogging with a full-time job.

Take the time to learn SEO, and make sure you self-host your blog.

Do not compare yourself to the bloggers who are already established. We all have to start somewhere, and the key is getting started.

What has been one of the most challenging moments in your blogging journey so far?

I am still new to blogging, but my biggest challenge has been getting consistent traffic to my blog and continuing to learn as I go along. The one thing about blogging is that there is always something new to learn.

With the rise of "Influencer" Marketing, how can bloggers stay true to their creative voice and individuality while still promoting valuable content for their audiences?

I think it is important for bloggers to find their voice, have a plan for what kind of influencer they want to be, and stick to that. For example, if you do not believe in a brand, don’t tie yourself to it.

How can a new blogger find support from peers in the community?

Join Facebook and Twitter blogger groups. These groups have a great sense of community, and it is so great to talk to people who are going through the same things as you are. People share both successes and set backs in the groups. They are super open and encouraging.
